IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF THIS YEAR, TAJIKISTAN IS OBSERVING INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF MARRIAGES AND DECREASE IN DIVORCE

Human experience shows that a society in which the institution of the family is fragile is doomed to failures and many social problems, and as a result, it is threatened with extinction. In this regard, in the Republic of Tajikistan, special attention is paid to the stability of the family and, in this context, to building a healthy society.

The founder of peace and national unity - the Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, declared 2015 the Year of the Family and emphasized: “Issues of family education, increasing the responsibility of parents in the education and upbringing of children, preparing children for independent life and family stability are among the issues requiring constant attention of all state bodies, educational institutions and the whole society.

Currently, the country has a State Program for the Prevention of Domestic Violence in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2014-2023, which was approved by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Social and legal protection of citizens on the basis of the Constitution and other legal acts on the prevention of domestic violence is one of the main goals of this program.

Today, the topics of family breakdown and the growth of domestic violence are relevant. This phenomenon in society is especially alarming in the relevant state institutions. Therefore, effective measures were taken in this direction to resolve the situation.

According to psychologists, the main reasons for the breakup of a family are the unpreparedness of young people for independent living, the lack of professions (specialties) among spouses, the lack of mutual understanding, and the like.

According to the head of the department of demographic statistics and employment of the population of the Agency on Statistics Nabizoda Abduvali, in the first quarter of 2023, 21428 marriages were officially registered in Tajikistan, which is 8.5% more compared to the same period last year. During this period, the number of broken families amounted to 3057, which is 827 less than in the same period last year.

According to the head of the department, although the divorce rate in the country decreased in the first quarter of 2023, this figure still remains alarming.

Analysts see the reason for the breakup of families in globalization and urbanization, which have led to a mixture of culture and the vulnerability of the characteristics and customs of the people.

Tajik culture has been promoting the importance of family values since ancient times and based on this has created many unique works in this regard. For Islamic culture, the family is also considered sacred and untouchable, and its protection is mandatory, and many moral norms have been introduced in this regard. Historical events also indicate that the Tajiks used all means to protect their families and even gave their lives for it.

Despite the fact that one of the reasons for the breakup of young families is early and forced marriages, nevertheless, in some families, there is a desire of parents to quickly provide a family for their children, especially to marry their unmarried daughters. Every parent wants their child to be happily married, but sometimes early and forced marriages lead to sad results.

Psychological unpreparedness of children for an independent life, forcing girls to marry, unilateral intervention of some parents in the life of newlyweds, domestic violence, drug and alcohol addiction of young men, evasion of family responsibilities and betrayal are the reasons for the destruction of families in society.

In connection with the discussion and consideration of this topic, it is concluded that if there is sufficient literacy, religious and secular worldview and respect for the values of life, the newlyweds will not lead to violence and strife in the family.
